How safe is a car seat base?
I just got a car seat with a base but I've heard that they aren't safe to use because in an accident the seat can come off of the base and fly around the car. I got the disney Winnie the Pooh seat and it has a metal bar in the base and metal clips on the seat. Are these metal pieces good enough to hold the seat in place or is it better to not use the base?
Yes, they are safe, or they wouldn't be able to sell them. You should always make sure the seat is locked into the base, just double check by listening for the 'click' and then pulling up to make sure it's secure. Also, make sure your base is installed tight enough. Always press firmly on the base or kneel on it when tightening the LATCH straps or vehicle seat belt.
